lesson of 08/12/10

Today in lesson we basically just got on with our Small Scale projects ourselves, whilst Mrs Raji saw each one in the class individually, having a one to one to see where everyone is.

I think mine went well and was quite please, all i really gotta do is go to the British Library to try and find some informatuion on segregation as a result of not finding much at the BFI

Prezi of investigation

Collate research

Now i think its time to get a class to sit down and get them to watch Skin and perhaps To Kill A Mockingbird (if can get it on D.V.D)

If i get the class to write skin, i think i would either ask them some questions or make them a questionaire to fill out for me, i know one of the questions could be 'what was your reactions towards Sandra and her parents' and i could try and find out what they think about sandra and her choosen boyfriend, the scene where the white people decide to take the black people homes away from them (destroy their homes) and leave them homeless and their opinions on the matter of black people and white people cant share the same space in some part of their town (relates to when sandra got put into prison for being caught with her boyfriend at his place)....perhaps?

I can also write some questionaires up for my class pupils, asking them some questions of what they actually know about the segregation of black and white people in 'older' films and how they were treated, and could even ask them if they have watched films that shows this, what films and what was their emotion response.

WHAT SHOULD OF BEEN DONE SO FAR!!

Small Scale: What should be done by now

Blog set up - this should be updated every time you do something or find out something new
Folder bought, with dividers
All films watched - with notes relevant to investigation question, you should have key scenes picked out that you can show during your presentation
Internet research complete - all link used logged on your blog
All research from the BFI gone through and highlighted - if you needed to go again this should have been done by now
Collate research - use pg14 of booklets as a guide on how to do this, you need to start separating useful research from un-useful research
Primary research should be in process now - e.g. questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, etc
IF YOU DON'T UP DATE YOUR BLOGS I CAN'T SEE WHAT YOU'VE BEEN DOING!

viewing of Mississippi Burning

Honestly, i need to rewatch Mississippi burning as when i attempted to do so i had many interuptions and things on my mind and only remember very little, but one particular scene i remember is when the black people are in the church , and when they all came out they are bombareded by whites people that have guns, base ball bats ect and their faces are covered up by sheets, then after a couple of minutes on the film you see them torturing this young boy, looks around the age of 1416 years... I had quite an emotional response here as i was horrified someone would actually do something like that.

Viewing of To Kill A Mockingbird

I have now rewatched To Kill A Mockingbird and refreshed my memory of it. I have a couple of scene in mind of which could be my main ones (think they are further down the blog) but to rewrite them, one is the court scene which is very intense and shows the segregation between white and black people, Atticus's speech, prison scene.

Well today the class went to the British Film Institution to try and do some research on our films and infomation based around our investigation.

I only found a little information on To Kill A Mocking Bird and thats it....so personally it was kinda useless to me which isnt good as it means my script will be based on the internet research i find and my own work through watching the films :/

Area of focus

Identify key scenes (these may be powerful, emotional or assential to moving the plot forward) :

  • Court scene:- shows the segregation of the back and white people in one location/setting; black people have to sit upstairs whilst white have to sit downstairs.
  • Prison Scene:- group of males decided to go to the prison where Tom Robinson is held (being accused of rape)

Identify narrative structure and any significant narrative devices used to tell a story:

List key characters, relationships and their relevance to your investigation:

Match an important scene to each of the key characters, in which the area of focus is prominent:

  • Atticus Finch:-
  • Tom Robinson:- court and prison scenes.
  • Mayella Ewell:- court scene where she accues Tom Robinson of rape, but acts very cautious which indicates to the audience she is lying.

List the micro features that bring bearing on the area of the investigation:

  • Performance
  • Mise-En-Scene

List messages and values that are expressed in or by the film and identify the key points where they appear:

Mississippi Burning

Mississippi Burning is a 1988 American crime drama film loosely based on the FBI investigation into the real-life murders of three civil rights workers in the U.S. state of Mississippi in 1964. Skin

Based on the true story of a black girl who was born to two white Afrikaner parents in South Africa during the apartheid era.

To kill a mockingbird

The film's young protagonists, Scout (Mary Badham) and her brother Jem (Phillip Alford), live in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the 1930s. The story covers three years, during which Scout and Jem undergo changes in their lives. They begin as innocent children, who spend their days happily playing games with each other and spying on the town bogeyman, Boo Radley (Robert Duvall). Through their father's (Gregory Peck) work as a lawyer, they begin to learn of the racism and evil prevalent in their town, and painfully mature as they are exposed to it.

To Do Today/Tonight (Hopefully):
  • Research Mississippi Burnign and To Kill A Mocking Bird... and a lil research on the background of that year the films are based on

To Kill A Mocking Bird should be quite easy to research as i studied the play in AS Drama last year, watched the movie etc

Lesson of 03/11/10

We are now moving on to our coursework; 'FM3 Small Scale Research'... and today we went through the booklet of the whole entire unit and what is expected of us to do and complete.

Thinking about it, i am quite looking forward to this project as we, as indiviuals, get to choose our own critical approch , basically base our project on whatever we find interesting...this hopefully means i shall not get bored with the work.

Whilst looking through the critical approaches i had already came up with an idea; the representations of black people in the oldern days... i would very much like to do this one as i find it quite interesting yet still disgusting, however i would like to learn more and of the background of these films. I thought straightaway of two films, one is Mississippi Burning and the other How To Kill A Mocking Bird. Nwow just to see what miss thinks of this idea in next lesson ...
